Ferris Bueller

As part of a local video contest, this scene recreation serves as one of my most favorite video projects to date! Watch and learn more about the video below.

  • What originally was intended to be a full-scale recreation of one singular scene from the iconic 1986 teen film ended with a compilation of recreated scenes — shot to resemble the original as closely as possible while adding my own artistic and geographic flair.

Shot entirely in my rural Illinois county, this Ferris Bueller recreation stars my great friend Oliver (whose senior photos I also captured) as the leading role.

As an AV class, my advisor, classmates, and myself brainstormed ideas for the local scene recreation contest that was held each year. Having won the previous year with our rendition of Napoleon Dynamite, and doing well with our rendition of Mean Girls the year earlier, we knew Ferris Bueller had big shoes to fill.

Taking many school hours and weekend days to film, along with sleepless nights on my part as the director and editor of the project, the video was completed successfully and garnered our class yet another win for the local contest.

As mentioned previously, the project is one of my most favorite to date, increasing my love of the video craft.

  • The project used a combination of DSLR, iPhone, and GoPro cameras.

Alongside the cameras, lavalier microphones and Zoom recording units were used to complete the (admittedly, at times, spotty) audio.

Lighting and green screen was also used throughout the project.

Adobe Premiere Pro was used to edit the video.

  • As mentioned previously, I served as director and editor of the project. With the help of my AV classmates and advisor, I completed much of the project’s “dirty work.”
